Málaga is a bustling commercial and residential center whose economy does not depend exclusively on tourism. Its chief attraction is the mild off-season climate. Summer can be sticky.
Málaga's most famous citizen was Pablo Picasso, born in 1881 at the Plaza de la Merced, in the center of the city. The artist unfortunately left little of his spirit -- and only a small selection of his work -- in his birthplace.
